Changing the Game with E-learning
One way of defining the digital age is seeing the limitless possibilities around us. With just one click, anyone can explore the world and cross borders that were impassable before. The advent of technology has opened more doors and opportunities for everyone. This includes access to education. With an internet connection and smartphone at hand, studying beyond the four corners of the classroom is even more attainable today. Learning in one’s own pace, time, and place is becoming the new trend in this generation.
E-learning, or electronic learning, refers to the method of education that uses information and communication technology (ICT) to deliver learning content to the students. It utilizes mainly the internet, through electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops, tablets, and computers for studying. In e-learning, lessons are tackled through various communication media like photos, videos, modules, and presentation slides that can be accessed online. By just going online, topics ranging from entrepreneurship and management to arts and social sciences can now be learned.
Various institutions around the world have developed several online courses that can be accessed around the web. In the Philippines, different universities and agencies such as the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), to name a few, offer online courses and programs to everyone.
But what’s in it for us to give e-learning a chance? There are only two things that e-learning requires: first, an internet connection through mobile data or Wi-Fi, and any gadget that can connect to it. With these, learning anything is at our fingertips. Classes can happen even in the comforts of our home and in our vacant time. Resources such as money is less of a challenge since some online courses at a minimum cost are available. Some are even offered for free. Hence, learning is now possible for anyone regardless of age, status, varying interests and learning needs.
Also, studying with peers and other learners is not a limitation for e-learning. With social media as an emerging platform, learning while interacting with other online students can happen simultaneously. Today, social media is one of the channels wherein learning and collaboration can happen in one space, but among people of different time zones and locations. Now, this is what we call a total game changer.
And Hapinoy, in partnership with Mastercard, is bringing this game change as it offers free e-learning course for sari-sari store owners as part of HapiSkwela, its training and mentoring program. The rise of technology continuously paves a way for us to grow and hone our skills and ourselves, either for our profession or for our passion. And with this, learning can never be a game over.
